Woodstock

As part of the European project Woodstock, a group of 25 students from the University of Ghent, engaged in a research project on the reusability of wood waste. This was done to inspire the ongoing LabLand project, which aims to design housing units for homeless youth. The students were asked to create a design for furniture, structures, or façade purpose.  This course was structured in three phases. In the first phase, students were tasked with deepening their knowledge of a specific theme, which served as a reference base for all students. The previous presentation was used to inspire students for the second phase, where they paired up to create prototypes that showcased innovative uses of reclaimed wood, ensuring that their designs were practical and applicable within the context of the LabLand project. After this phase, a jury was organized to review the prototypes, which were then presented to LabLand. In the third and last phase, LabLand selected products for further development. Ultimately, four projects were brought to production, including structural columns, a façade made of shingles, a chair and a cabinet.
